Blended

A True Partnership Between Home and School

Oak City Academy’s Blended Model is not a two-day school. It’s a five-day educational experience designed to combine the best of both worlds: a vibrant school environment and meaningful time at home.

Students in grades K-5th attend class on campus two days a week (Track 1: Monday/Wednesday or Track 2: Tuesday/Thursday) and complete teacher-guided lessons at home the other three days under the direction of a parent co-teacher.

This unique structure honors the gift of family time while providing the structure, support, and accountability of a high-quality Christian Montessori education. It's an ideal solution for families seeking a hybrid homeschool model with clear expectations, professional teaching support, and space to “follow the child.”

WHY FAMILIES LOVE THE BLENDED MODEL

  • Best of Both Worlds: Children enjoy a real school experience—friends, classrooms, routines—while maintaining the flexibility of homeschool days.

  • Strong Academics: Students benefit from a carefully structured curriculum, pacing guides, and quarterly assessments.

  • Parent Partnership: You’re not doing this alone. As a co-teacher, you’re supported with lessons, materials, and communication tools every step of the way.

  • Affordability: The NC Opportunity Scholarship applies to the Blended Model, making this hybrid homeschool option financially accessible to many families.

HOW IT WORKS

  • At School (2 Days/Week)
Teachers lead small-group instruction, present key lessons, and assess student progress. Core subjects introduced and assessed at school are listed in black on the curriculum map.

Think of your child’s teacher as the quarterback—calling the play, throwing the pass (teaching a lesson each day), and setting the pace for the week.

  • At Home (3 Days/Week)
Parents step into the role of co-teacher, using materials and pacing guides to reinforce and extend classroom instruction. Subjects presented at home (in blue on the curriculum map) are flexible and parent-led.

Think of students as the "receivers." They catch the pass (the lesson) then go home and master the material to make the touchdown! Parents are the sideline coaches, carrying the lesson forward and guiding their child toward mastery (the touchdown). You’ll review, reteach, and adapt as needed, following your child’s progress and needs.

SUPPORT & RESOURCES

  • Full curriculum maps for each grade
  • Teacher-created practice binders and take-home Montessori materials
  • Weekly contracts that outline tasks and learning goals
  • Ongoing communication and support from classroom teachers
  • Optional monthly curriculum-related field trips and meet-ups
  • Summer Parent Orientation & training videos

THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

OCA provides the concrete, hands-on learning at school; parents help students apply that learning to the abstract at home. Families are encouraged to create a Montessori-inspired home space where children can work independently, with focus and purpose.

This model naturally supports student choice, personalized learning, and one-on-one instruction—something there simply isn’t time for in a full classroom. You’ll have the freedom to challenge a student who is ready to soar or slow down for a child who needs extra support.

COMMUNITY & CONNECTION

Each Blended class is supported by a Room Parent and a Community Coordinator, who organize volunteers and plan optional field trips or curriculum extensions. You’ll be part of a connected, like-minded parent community that encourages one another in the journey.
